Between 2009 and 2013, the Eye to the Future Project ran out-of-school programming for over 3,000 children in Gaza. This presentation reveals some of the special ways that this project worked and excelled. The design principles and examples shared will enrich and expand the way you think about building programs that support children affected by hardship and trauma.

This training will address:

  • How a unique out-of-school-time program operated in one of the most dangerous places on the planet for children.
  • This special approach used to implement this program.
  • The important impact on the well-being of children that the full power of caring adult relationships can have to foster hope and healing.

Between 2009 and 2013, the Eye to the Future Project ran out-of-school programming for over 3,000 children in Gaza. This presentation is an in-depth exploration of what happens when communities work together to try to address the tremendous emotional and behavioral challenges so many of their children were confronting. As told by one of the designers of the initiative, this presentation will reveal some of the special ways that this project achieved its intended outcomes. The program design principles and examples shared will enrich and expand the way you think about building programs that support children affected by hardship and trauma.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand the reality for children and families in Gaza between 2009 and 2013
  • Identify six design principles that positively impact youth program outcomes
  • Describe the four elements of a program that leverages the power of the caring adult relationship
  • Learn techniques to embed caring adult practices into a program design
  • Learn the primary emotional regulation and problem-solving technique taught in the program

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Amedco is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Amedco maintains responsibility for this course. Social Workers completing this course receive 2.00 GENERAL continuing education credits.
