About Ferreras Counseling & Wellness Center:
Established in 2015, Ferreras Counseling & Wellness Center, is a minority, family-owned and operated, fully bilingual mental health center caring for the mental health needs of women, men and youth. Ferreras’ clinics are in Lawrence, Lynn and Jamaica Plain to respond to the growing need for mental and behavioral health services in the underserved communities throughout Greater Boston.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to serve the community with dignity and respect. We are committed to helping clients through their healing process, as well as, helping those who have behavioral challenges realize that changes in their own behavior are an important part of healing. We also believe working with both sides is an important aspect of creating a less violent society. Our space is cultivated to create calm and invite introspection and healing. From the moment you step through our doors, you are family, and we want you to feel that in every aspect of your experience as you nurture your emotional health. We begin with creating an environment of respect and privacy. Each healing space is outfitted to match the expertise and style of the therapist who will be supporting you, so you can guarantee a feeling of confident professionalism in every visit.
What Makes Us Unique:
“Cultural and ethnic minorities face unique discrimination and risk in seeking mental healthcare,” says Founder & CEO Dr. Maria Ferreras-Mendez, a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), with a Ph.D. in Psychology Christian World Views. “We understand that mental disorders and substance abuse can affect women and men differently. But, for people of color and Latinos, there are cultural and linguistic barriers that can prevent them from getting the help they need by culturally and racially aware clinicians. Ferreras provides over 30 caring clinicians who are predominantly bi-lingual to help individuals and families of all walks of life overcome extraordinary challenges to thrive.” In addition to cognitive-behavioral therapy (the talk therapy you’re expecting from a counseling appointment), we offer a variety of services to support your healing without complicating your life. We are human first, just like you, and we promise to approach your treatment with the respect of a fellow human and the professionalism of an expertly trained therapist. We will treat you with respect and inclusivity at every turn, no matter the choices you’ve made or what you must heal from.
We Offer:
- An MD on staff who can prescribe medications to supplement your therapy
- Privileges in local schools to streamline services for children with minimal disruption to their academics
- The ability to write referrals for other needs and services we cannot provide
- Counselors trained in behavioral modification to support without judgement or condemnation
- A family-driven focus on healing that promises you respect, compassion and honesty
