Dr. Christine Gibson is a physician and clinical integrated trauma therapist in Calgary, Canada. She has become a prominent mental health educator on social media as @TikTokTraumaDoc. With a Masters in Medical Education and a Doctoral candidate in Transdisciplinary studies, she is reinvigorating knowledge translation in the field of trauma.
Dr. Gibson has written an accessible, intersectional primer on trauma – The Modern Trauma Toolkit. This book is an excellent resource for both clinicians and clients – explaining neurophysiology such as the polyvagal theory and epigenetics but also a clear path forward. Nurturing one’s journey to post-traumatic growth, she includes over forty practices that can be self-taught – many somatic therapeutic techniques. There is a focus on systems, how oppression and inequity contribute to our collective trauma in these modern times and the community-embedded practices where we can invest.
As a follow-up to the book, with a look for ongoing systems change, we are launching Safer Spaces Training. We have been piloting novel ways to teach professionals and organizations about psychological safety. Our preliminary curriculum includes four modules:
(1) trauma-informed environments
(2) psychological first aid
(3) safer communication strategies
(4) trauma-informed DEI
We will be working on a software platform to launch HR educational training that can be embedded into onboarding and certification. We hope that self-regulating professional colleges will choose to include psychological safety as a key mandatory component to competence.
Trauma does not change until systems change. Join Christine in this transformational endeavor.
